Sunday In L.A.

Today was the perfect day to indulge in some interior design and art in Los Angeles. Here’s how I spent my day…

First Stop: Melrose Trading Post on Fairfax and Melrose

Just down the street I visited the much anticipated Tini (This Is Not Ikea) on Fairfax. This vintage interior design store is packed from floor to ceiling with unique furniture and accessories with just enough space to walk through the aisles. I would have bought the whole store if I had a huge truck and lots and lots of $$$! I could spend all day in there coming up with beautiful spaces for the furniture. A girl can only dream…

Then off to Umami Burger for lunch! I ordered the Greenbird (Shelton Farm turkey burger with crushed avocado, green cheese, butter lettuce, sprouts, and green goddess sauce). Amazing! I rarely indulge in a burger such as this but when I do Umami Burger is my new go-to spot.

And finally the LACMA for more art and design inspiration!

So there’s a little taste of my Sunday. Hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did! I hope to have more posts for you in the very near future!

xoxo

David Bromstad’s Color Splash

If you love interior design as much as I do then I’m sure you know all about the work of David Bromstad. This artist/designer has his own show, Color Splash Miami on HGTV, on which he designs rooms with vibrant colors and stylish pieces to create an inspiring space for his clients. David always adds a personal touch with a one-of-a-kind painting to tie everything together with flare. He is truly my new design hero! For more information about David Bromstad click here! Enjoy and be inspired!

Olivia Wilde At Home

I’m loving Olivia Wilde’s home in Venice, CA showcased in InStyle’s June 2009 issue. In case you’re not familiar with her she plays Doctor Remy “Thirteen” Hadley on the Fox TV show House as well as smaller roles in movies such as Year One (2009), Alpha Dog (2006), and The Girl Next Door (2004).

This birch bookcase was designed based on those found at Equator Books in Venice, CA. She also collects treasures such as those pictured here including a pair of black-and-white ceramic swans, a black-and-white painting by Matthew Heller (top of bookcase), and a 1917 typewriter.

Olivia’s 2,000-square-foot home in Venice, CA was designed by architect Mark Mack who specifically designed the cobalt kitchen cabinets, concrete floors, and metal staircase. I love how she has combined rustic antique pieces with modern pieces and used inspiration from various places around the world to create a unique home for herself and her husband, Prince Tao Ruspoli, an American filmmaker and musician.

The photo titled Hands by Robert Stivers is the centerpiece of the sitting area in the office. It’s accompanied by a plush rug, elegant purple and gold drapes, and a glass coffee table supported by metal ram’s heads.

The wallpaper in the bedroom is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds from Walnut Wallpaper in L.A. The bed frame is adorned with faux fur to add texture to the space. Peony bedding by DK essentials (bloomingdales.com), Paul Frankl cork-top bench (modern1.com), vintage Murano glass lamp (downtown20.net).

The closet is inspired by Le Meurice hotel and Le Dali restaurant in Paris. It’s decorated with a plush rug from Cantoni, a black glass chandelier from Lawson-Fenning, two mirrored chests from Anthropologie, and a 19th-century mirrored vanity from the South of France. She looks so excited in her personally designed closet!

The home has its very own zen corner (left) with an Indian table, a Japanese paper lantern, and a painting by Terrell Moore. The kitchen (right) has a mix of worn furniture and modern stainless steel appliances. Love her outfit here!

I love how the wooden beams in the ceiling are exposed in the dining room (left) and the random artwork on the walls. The natural light entering through the clear resin sliding screen doors displays Olivia’s love of nature (right).

I hope you enjoy her place and creativity throughout her home as much as I do! There will be much more to come on Olivia Wilde in the near future, including workout secrets, nutrition, beauty, fashion, and her participation in various organizations around the world! See you soon!

Interior Design Miranda Kerr Style

In September 2006, Miranda invested in this $1 million Manhattan apartment in Chelsea. Her apartment is adorned with antique mirrors and furniture intermingled with floral designs and vibrant colors. I love the mix of vintage and modern pieces and how it provides a relaxing environment to unwind in.
